Accounting Manager Spoonflower GmbH

We are currently looking for a temporary Accounting Manager (contract 24 months) as part of maternity coverage in our Berlin office. This role is full-time (40 hours / week).
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee the general accounting functions and daily operations of the Berlin accounts department. This includes:
    • Keep account books and systems up to date
    • Prepare vendor invoices for payments with appropriate documentation and approvals
    • Oversee and document the cash activities of the GmbH
    • Record fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in the accounting system, review and update the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation
    • Accrue expenses, reconcile credit card statements, processing and managing intercompany activities as well as preparing monthly invoices to mother company.
    • Manage month end and year end process
    • Coordinate with outside auditors and provide necessary information for the annual external audit to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end
    • Assist with tax audits and tax returns
    • Prepare and review financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
    • Ensure compliance with German GAAP principles
    • Lead and coordinate communications with vendors, tax advisors, banks, and authorities and being point contact for the US (United States) entities regarding financial and administrational questions and queries
    • Develop and maintain systems for document storage and retrieval
  • Manage and coordinate international VAT (Value Added Tax) reporting for the German and US entities. This includes:
    • Preparation and submission of VAT/, GST tax returns for the tax consultancy (input & sales VAT)
    • Review of compliance data and quality checks
    • Assistance with tax audits and compliance related questions raised by the tax authorities
    • Coordination of VAT/GST registrations and de-registrations
    • Keep up to date regarding new VAT regulations and changes to import VAT
Required qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or any equivalent education
  • 5 + years of professional experience in accounting required
  • Proficiency with computers, especially bookkeeping software, and MS Office
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations
  • Excellent communication skills in German and English
  • Experience in managing a small team
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience in working in an international team
